Planet of the Apes (2001)

Action/Adventure Rated PG-13

Director Tim Burton apes a standard blockbuster filmmaking style in this satisfying remake of the 1968 science-fiction classic. There’s plenty of entertaining makeup effects and action here, but Burton’s talent for imposing his personal vision on the most commercial of pop tableaus (Batman, Sleepy Hollow) never shines through.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

Action/Adventure Rated PG-13

“…an enthralling portrait – at once intimate and epic – of two civilizations on the brink.”

War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)

Action/Adventure Rated PG-13

“…appropriately momentous, then elegiac.”

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

Action/Adventure Rated PG-13

“…offers one of the richest character arcs I’ve seen in quite some time. And I’m talking about the chimpanzee.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)

Action/Adventure Rated PG-13

“…well below the standards that have been set by the previous films.”

Red Planet (2000)

Action/Adventure Rated PG-13

Hardly a mind-blowing piece of science fiction, Red Planet still entertains as an outer space version of television’s “Survivor.” After five men crash-land on Mars, they engage in a series of wily tactics, machinations and double-crosses that eventually result in only one of them returning to Earth.

Fantastic Planet (1973)

Action/Adventure Rated PG

“A strange new world weirdly unfolds in Fantastic Planet…”

Janet Planet (2024)

Drama Rated PG-13

“Intimately aligned with its 11-year-old protagonist’s point of view…”

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Action/Adventure Rated PG-13

“…a pinball machine of a movie that flings us from one sci-fi scenario to the next, caring little for continuity or context.”

The Brother from Another Planet (1984)

Comedy Rated R

“…nearly topples over from the weight of its social commentary.”
