Beerfest

Beerfest was my first encounter with the work of comedy troupe Broken Lizard (Super Troopers, Club Dread), and it appears I haven’t been missing much. As they embody a group of thirty-something buddies who partake in an underground beer-drinking competition, the group benefits from the easy camaraderie of a bunch of guys used to cracking each other up. But for every good gag here – including a brief, hysterical homage to The Wolf Man – there is a lot of dead air, most of which is filled with bare breasts and loud burps. According to my tally at the end of a long 111 minutes, we get far more of the latter two elements than laughs.
