Josh is the co-host of the long-running radio show and podcast Filmspotting, as well as author of Movies Are Prayers and Fear Not! A Christian Appreciation of Horror.
Previously he served as senior producer for Think Christian, a website, podcast, and video channel exploring the intersection of faith and pop culture.
Josh has been writing and speaking about movies professionally for more than 30 years. His career began in the newspaper business, where he started out as a beat reporter for a weekly community newspaper and went on to become a film critic for the Chicago-based Sun-Times Media for more than 10 years. In 2011, he entered the new media landscape with Think Christian. Josh joined Filmspotting in 2012. Produced weekly and aired on WBEZ in Chicago, the show features reviews, interviews, and Top 5 lists, and was launched in the early days of iTunes in 2005.
A veteran of the Sundance, Toronto, and Chicago International Film Festivals, Josh has given talks on film at various colleges and conferences. Since 2017 he has led “Ebert Interruptus,” a tradition established by Roger Ebert, which analyzes a single film scene by scene over several days at the University of Colorado’s Conference on World Affairs. In 2024, he brought a version of the event — Cinema Interruptus — to Chicago.
