Hitcher, The

The Hitcher opens in a queasy state of moral unease, as a young couple nearly runs over a hitchhiker and then flees the scene rather than stopping to see if he’s OK. It turns out they made the right decision, for when he catches up with them at a gas station … well, I don’t want to give too much away, even if this is a remake of the 1986 slasher flick of the same name. Unfortunately, director Dave Meyers quickly abandons any sinister sense of dread and instead floors it – the movie goes 110 mph the rest of the way. With Sean Bean as the killer and two young actors as the victims (they’re so bland, I can hardly remember their faces, let alone their names).
