John Cusack plays a slumming author in this Stephen King adaptation – a once-talented novelist who now writes travel guides about supposedly haunted hotels – but that’s nothing compared to the slumming that Cusack the actor does on screen. Stuck in the title room – an actually haunted space in a grand New York City hotel – Cusack screams, swears, smacks his head, cries and whimpers. Does he want out of the room or the movie?
