Cassandra’s Dream

Another London excursion for Woody Allen, Cassandra’s Dream is a fairly inconsequential variation on his usual crime-and-punishment themes. Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell play a pair of financially strapped brothers desperate for some quick cash. When they tap their millionaire uncle (Tom Wilkinson) for funds, however, he requires a shocking favor in return. The cast makes the most of Allen’s predetermined screenplay. McGregor is eagerly oily, while Farrell is subtly funny as the brother with a problematic guilt complex. Best of all is Wilkinson, making the most of his few scenes as the family cash cow turned black sheep.
