Skyline

I suppose it’s fitting that a movie about aliens extracting human brains would eventually lose its head. Skyline is a startling alien-invasion thriller with dazzling special effects, especially given its meager budget and the fact that it was produced as an independent feature by the directing team of brothers Colin and Greg Strause. The movie is imaginative, gripping and completely undone by an epilogue that is nothing short of bonkers. A group of partying, L.A. twentysomethings wake up after a night of revelry to find metallic, tentacled spacecraft hovering over the city. The ships — and the various monsters they unleash — emit a blue light that renders victims helpless. What happens next? Let’s just say this alien race’s language likely consists of only one word: “Braaiins!”
