Adventures of Robin Hood, The

One of those old movies that refuses to become musty. The Technicolor hues of Sherwood forest have never been more brilliant; the swashbuckling between Robin (Errol Flynn) and Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Basil Rathbone) more rousing. Is the movie corny? Lovably so, from the overly effusive laughter of the Merry Men to the twinkly eyed declarations of love Robin makes to Maid Marian (a stunning Olivia de Havilland). And then there are those green tights. Robin Hood embraces all of it with an earnestness that today feels like bravery. The movies will never be like this again.
