I can’t think of less business-savvy premise for a movie than that of Awake, which follows a patient (Hayden Christensen) who becomes conscious yet remains paralyzed during heart surgery. Writer-director Joby Harold has basically fashioned the most insane episode of “E.R.” you can imagine, along with three shocking twists designed to move things beyond the gimmicky premise. All of which makes Awake an unsatisfying stunt movie in more ways than one. With Jessica Alba and Terrence Howard.
