Bank Job, The

Loosely based on a 1971 robbery of a London vault, this gives action star Jason Statham a real role. He plays a husband and father of two who has been “involved in the odd bit of skullduggery” here and there. When a former flame (Saffron Burrows) brings him information about the bank’s vulnerability, he tries to take a step up the criminal ladder. Placing the lead character outside of his element gives the movie its slight kick – and Statham a chance to stretch beyond his usual demeanor of tightly wound menace.
