Breach

Based on the capture of traitorous FBI agent Robert Hanssen, this has a mole of its own, someone working against the movie right under its nose. That would be bland star Ryan Phillippe, who plays a young, married FBI employee assigned to spy on Hanssen. Breach, which should be a riveting dissection of Hanssen (an excellent Chris Cooper), instead turns most of its attention on Phillippe’s Eric O’Neill and his clichéd, personal drama (his wife is excited that he works for the FBI, but wouldn’t you know she just can’t stand him keeping secrets). There actually was an Eric O’Neill – he was a special consultant for the film – but that’s not who this story should have been about.
