Break-Up, The

As its title implies, this Jennifer Aniston-Vince Vaughn pairing deals in the sort of romance that’s infinitely more real than that usually offered up by the likes of Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey. Aniston stars as Brooke, a Chicago art dealer who has had it with the frat-boy ways of her tour-guide boyfriend (Vaughn). It is Aniston’s job to make Brooke a woman hoping for more from the man she loves rather than just a killjoy, and she does that largely by deflating Gary’s act, often with little more than an arched eyebrow. Aniston has always done some of her best comedic acting in reaction shots, and Vaughn is a gold mine to react against.
