Brideshead Revisited

Based on Evelyn Waugh’s 1945 novel about an Oxford student who becomes enmeshed in an aristocratic English family, Brideshead Revisited tackles each of Waugh’s themes in distinct, separate segments. It’s like three movies – about a single book – in one. As the movie makes these shifts – from a rumination on male friendship to a theological treatise to a conventional period romance – it feels increasingly haphazard and disjointed. With Matthew Goode, Ben Whishaw, Hayley Atwell and Emma Thompson.
