Death at a Funeral

This forced farce, in which all sorts of chaos is unleashed at the final send-off of a British husband and father, spins and whirls and sputters and wheezes, but never at exactly the right moments. The timing of the whole project seems off. Director Frank Oz sets up a few potentially comic situations – the sibling rivalry between the deceased man’s two sons, say, or a guest under the influence of hallucinogens – and then bangs away at them, mostly unsuccessfully
