Dogma

Writer-director Kevin Smith is hell-bent on proving that God has a sense of humor with this self-described “comedic fantasy,” in which an abortion-clinic worker (Linda Fiorentino) tries to save the world from a pair of murderous angels (Matt Damon and Ben Affleck). There’s enough sharp, satirical humor here – and honest intention – to make all of this more challenging than insulting to Christian believers, but Smith doesn’t really come up
with anything earth-shattering to say about faith. In the end, he’s like an altar boy who gets caught talking dirty during Mass and tries to convince the priest that he was saying the rosary.
