Evan Almighty

If the producers of Bruce Almighty locked themselves in a room until they came up with an idea for a sequel, Evan Almighty must be the one they hit upon around 3 a.m. Desperate and exhausted, this takes the Steve Carell newscaster from the first film and awkwardly transforms him into a congressman who is tapped by God (Morgan Freeman) to build an ark. From there we get a series of obvious riffs on the Biblical story of Noah. Most of these have no relevance to the plot at hand, but instead allow the filmmakers to create a Night at the Museum-style hybrid of family-friendly inanity and middling special effects.
