Festival in Cannes

Writer-director Henry Jaglom, an icon of independent film, once again employs a very personal, quasi-
documentary style, as he follows the intertwining, back-door negotiations involving two very different productions: a big-budget Hollywood prestige piece and an independent debut, both of which want to lure the participation of a legendary French actress. Greta Scacchi, Ron Silver, Anouk Aimee and Maximilian Schell play the
various movers and shakers, mostly pretty people exercising their artistic angst under the Mediterranean sun. Jaglom has a lot of affection for these characters – it’s part of the reason the movie lacks bite – but unless
you’re in the business yourself it’s doubtful the affection will be shared.
