An adaptation of the beloved Mary O’Hara novel My Friend Flicka, this oversells its mountain-air virtues, but those virtues are still there. Alison Lohman plays Katy, a spirited Wyoming teen who butts heads with her rancher father (Tim McGraw) over a wild mustang. Over the course of a handful of highly scripted confrontations, lessons are learned, love is spoken and nobody needs to be put down (including country-music star McGraw, struggling a bit with his first lead role but nicely supported by Maria Bello as his wife and Lohman, who at the time was actually a 27-year-old pro).
