Good Luck Chuck

A revolting little romantic comedy, this is ugly on the inside and out. And mind you, the movie costars Jessica Alba. The premise centers around the title character (Dane Cook), a dentist who begins to notice that after a woman sleeps with him, she ends up marrying the next man she dates. Alba plays Cam, a clumsy “penguin specialist” Dane actually cares about. But if they become too intimate, won’t that mean… A nasty witches’ brew of There’s Something About Mary and American Pie, Good Luck Chuck yearns for the sweetness of those films but never comes close to managing it. It wants to position itself as a first-date movie, but it’s a first-date movie for those who don’t believe in second ones.
