Haven

Haven wants to be one of those interwoven, multiple-plot dramas, but the problem is the movie seems to decide that about halfway through its running time. After spending quite a bit of time following a shady businessman (Bill Paxton) who flees with a bunch of dirty money and his daughter (Agnes Bruckner) to the Cayman Islands, the movie suddenly drops that plot and moves on to the Romeo and Juliet romance between an island rat (Orlando Bloom) and a marina owner’s daughter (Zoe Saldana). Despite bringing everyone together for the climax, Haven still leaves you confused rather than intrigued. These interconnected storylines may need to feel free-flowing and organic on the screen, but it takes a strong sense of discipline to plot them out behind the scenes – a sense of discipline that writer-director Frank E. Flowers lacks.
