Hot Rod

Andy Samberg makes the jump from “Saturday Night Live” with this funny, bizarre and extremely stupid comedy about Rod Kimble, a self-proclaimed stunt man whose failed tricks are the stuff YouTube is built upon. This was envisioned as a Will Ferrell project, yet Samberg and his frequent collaborators Jorma Taccone (as Rod’s stepbrother) and Akiva Schaffer (making his directorial debut) put their own mark on the material. Mainly this involves bad hair metal, a lengthy montage of people saying “cool beans,” a musical number that devolves into a riot and a giant taco fighting a giant grilled cheese sandwich.
