This update of the 1975 Roger Corman exploitation flick Death Race 2000, about convicts racing to win their freedom, is too brutal and boorish to be a guilty pleasure. It’s just guilty. Schlockmeister director Paul W. S. Anderson has trouble bringing much coherence to the racing scenes; cars crash and bang and spin and burn, none of it staged with much ingenuity. Featuring Jason Statham and Joan Allen; as the warden, she provides far too few unintentional laughs.
