Quantum of Solace

A direct continuation of 2006’s grim Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace is nonetheless twice as dour. At one point, a character refers to the “inconsolable rage” of James Bond (Daniel Craig) and the movie is suffused with that sort of anguish. It’s stylish – we still get that opening credit sequence of nude female silhouettes, proof that some Bond kitsch will never die – yet in a doom chic way. As Bond chases down the hoodlums from the earlier film, he gives us a few slick action sequences and lots of dead bodies. Bond’s revenge here is sleek, but not sweet.
