Gremlins

Set on Christmas Eve, this gleefully sinister lump of coal soon transforms into a retort to the Christmas spirit. A mysterious, cuddly creature unexpectedly spawns the title monsters in small-town U.S.A. – grinning, little green men who make mischievous targets of everything, including little old women. From underrated director Joe Dante, reveling in his chance to play the Grinch.
