Last Legion, The

More like Oliver Stone’s hoot-worthy Alexander than Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings, the sword-and-sandals adventure The Last Legion features unlikely star Colin Firth as a Roman soldier battling to protect the last boy ruler of the crumbling empire. Since this is the sort of movie in which everyone in Rome speaks with a British accent, there is a disconnect that comes with watching Firth – who is usually associated with classy British romantic comedies – anchor something so tacky. With Ben Kingsley as a philosopher who talks like Obi-Wan Kenobi and wields a staff like Gandalf and Indian star Aishwarya Rai as a “warrior maiden.”
