Lost in Translation

Bill Murray stars as a halfhearted movie star who is in Japan to shoot a whiskey commercial, while Scarlett Johansson plays the wife of a photographer who is constantly on assignment. Both are trapped in a luxury hotel, where the sterility of their surroundings only makes the malaise that has infected their lives more apparent. Writer-director Sofia Coppola delivers a tender visual poem about friendship and loneliness, featuring some of the best acting of Murray’s career.
