Mirror Mirror

Credit director Tarsem Singh (The Fall) with the flickers of originality you’ll find in this reworking of the Snow White fairy tale, including the accordion legs worn by the bandit dwarves and the watery mirror world the evil queen (Julia Roberts) enters whenever she wants to inquire about the fairest of them all. But the rest of Mirror Mirror is a bit of a chore. Roberts never finds her footing (or her accent), even though she’s aided by some impressive costume design. And while the decision to play most scenes for comedy may have been designed to cater to her strengths, it ultimately leaves a lot of actors looking rather silly, including Armie Hammer as the prince and Lily Collins as Snow White.
