This latest outing for nearly silent British comedian Rowan Atkinson makes the fatal and ironic mistake of talking too much. Atkinson’s Bean – a bumbling combination of Charlie Chaplin and Jacques Tati’s Mr. Hulot – is as close-mouthed as usual, yet the movie works overtime to surround him with a talky and convoluted narrative. This time around Mr. Bean wins a trip to Cannes and runs into all sorts of plot-heavy complications along the way. They all come together in a clunky and wordy climax that has little to do with the uncomplicated purity of the best silent comedy.
