Ocean’s Eleven

A remake of the 1960 Rat Pack vehicle of the same name about a band of buddies who rob five Las Vegas casinos in one night, this isn’t a movie with big stars in it; this is a movie about big stars, and about why we slap down hard-earned money to see them on the big screen. Ocean’s Eleven has a notable “supporting cast” that includes Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Andy Garcia, but it’s George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts who are worth your money. Sure, they have looks – burnished to an elegant glow by director Steven Soderbergh’s lush cinematography – but what makes these three stars isn’t just their exterior glamour. It’s the way the camera naturally glides in their direction, the way the dialogue effortlessly slips from their lips, the way they can transfix us simply by batting an eye.
