Pirates of the Caribbean:
At World’s End

The most entertaining moments here are those that likely cost the least to film, but at least the movie does entertain. Forget about the plot – any script that involves something called the “nine pieces of eight” doesn’t really care if you can follow it – and instead enjoy the delicious atmospheric imagery and loopy performances, above all Johnny Depp’s reliably woozy Captain Jack Sparrow. Director Gore Verbinski gives Depp even more rope than before and the result – especially in a surreal segment in an undersea purgatory – is some delightfully existential clowning.
