She’s the Man

A nice little vehicle for the gifts of Amanda Bynes, who is rare among teen starlets in that she doesn’t sell CDs on the side and she has a real, natural talent. This light teen comedy is casually modeled on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, and amidst all its gender-bending farce, the movie has a smart absurdist streak that allows for smaller giggles in the corners. Bynes plays a high-school soccer player who goes undercover as her twin brother to prove her athletic skills against the boys, a scheme that results in various romantic complications and plenty of chances for the star to express her exasperated sense of humor.
