Shoot ‘Em Up

An action comedy in the kinetic sense. The jokes here aren’t the result of buddy banter or witty one-liners. Instead, they’re the stunts themselves – acrobatic endeavors so deliriously over-the-top that you can’t help but laugh. Clive Owen is in Sin City mode as Mr. Smith, a strong silent type who reluctantly finds himself between a newborn infant and a growling hit man (Paul Giamatti). Writer-director Michael Davis stages some outrageous, giddy gunplay, all anchored by Owen’s no-nonsense demeanor. If you’re impressed by the way Mr. Smith can take out the bad guys while holding an infant under his arm, wait until you see how he manages mid-climax (yes, I mean that sort of climax).
