This sequel splits up its four best friends forever for most of its running time, and thankfully the two most interesting actresses are given the more interesting storylines. America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn bring feeling and comic timing to their segments, as Ferrera’s Carmen deals with romantic and dramatic competition at a summer theater workshop and Tamblyn’s Tibby endures a – take a big gulp parents of Sisterhood-loving tweens – pregnancy scare. The movie is rife with soap-opera simplicities, yet Ferrera’s plucky smile and Tamblyn’s sardonic sneer manage to redeem them.
