Sleepy Hollow

Reteaming Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood) on an adaptation of Washington Irving’s prankish ghost story may have sounded like a dream come true, but the result is more akin to a harsh, bloody nightmare. Burton does cast his usual atmospheric spell – this Sleepy Hollow is full of twisted trees and lingering fog – but you have to sit through a lot of unnecessary gore to enjoy it.
