Wet Hot American Summer

This debut from director David Wain has its moments, but considering the cast there should be far more of them. Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Janeane Garofalo, Bradley Cooper, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, Christopher Meloni (my personal favorite), Molly Shannon, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio – they’re all here as various counselors and hangers-on at a summer camp for kids. Unfortunately, that list of names is longer than the number of gags that really work. It probably goes without saying that you’ll appreciate all of this much, much more if you ever attended, or worked at, a summer camp yourself, which may explain the cult following the movie has earned.
