Watermark

Directors Jennifer Baichwal and Edward Burtynsky split the difference between a fully immersive and often disorienting documentary like Leviathan and an informational, earth-science special you might find on the National Geographic channel. The result is a look at water and our relationship with it that is consistently gorgeous but occasionally frustrating. The imagery – of a massive Chinese dam, an ancient Indian well and endlessly exploring waterways – is mesmerizing, yet as a traditional documentary, Watermark gives us just enough data to prompt questions that it never goes on to answer.
